Should never be used to reach a deep state of sedation

Oral Conscious sedation

This method takes 30-60 minutes to create mild sedation

It is difficult at times because if more dedation is necessary, they you must wait a

Using multiple doses and or mixing with other medications should be monitored

with special equipment, special training and liscense.

Topical anesthetics

Injectable anesthetics

Wand   electronic controlled administration that is more comfortable

Ligmaject is used to numb 1 tooth, no lips, tongue or surrounding tissue

Stabident  can numb small areas without numbing lips and tongue

Not as easily contolled as IV Sedation

     Useful in some cases

Must be monitored with special equipment and special training and liscense

Intravenous sedation

     Begins to work in seconds

A typical visit for someone who is afraid:

  • The night B-4 your appointment, Valium or some other sedative by mouth to relax and sleep better
  • Valium or other relaxing medication by mouth about 1 hour B-4 your appointment
  • Someone drives you to and from your appointment
  • In the office, you lie down,  position your  pillow and blanket  in the dental chair and begin the Nitrous Oxide sedation.
  • You brought your CD player with your favorite music and place the earphones.
  • When the Nitrous Oxide has relaxed you even more, We place a topical anesthetic to begin the numbing process. This can be performed with, a topical jel, or a Dentipatch.
  • The Wand and/or Madajet,  Ligmaject, Stabident  is used
  • These can be used in such a way at times so you will feel little or no numbness in your face, lips, or tongue
  • During the procedure, we will constantly be watching for any signal from you that you are uncomfortable and will do our best to improve your feelings.
  • For those who wish more Relaxation

  • All of the above, but after the Nitrous Oxide is working well, we administer IV sedation and you will move into what some call "twilight sleep" where you will probably remember nothing of the procedure.

The more you know about these different options to make you comfortable, you can help choose which works best for you. We will record what you like and constantly change to improve.
