In
May 2000, the United States Surgeon
General issued a historic document
that changed the standards of care in
dentistry. The intimate and
direct relationship between the health
of the mouth and the health of the
rest of the body was the center of
attention in that document. (Of
course, this was not new information
because Plato said it centuries ago
and many icons in medicine - like Dr.
Albert Schweitzer - said the same
thing.) One can easily see
inside the mouth (called by Plato
"the mirror of the body")
but we cannot readily see inside the
lung or liver or knee. However,
rest assured that whatever problems
are seen happening inside the mouth,
the same things are happening in the
rest of the body.
The
Surgeon General also told the dentist
to use the knowledge he already has
(that 80%) and focus on nutrition, the
basis for all health. The
dentist receives a great deal of
extremely deep, doctor-level nutrition
training (enzyme systems, molecular
configurations, electron-transfer,
etc.) to which he can add the magazine
level (lettuce and tomatoes).
This is a knowledge the dentist has
and never uses. Now, it must be
used.
New
Century Dentistry developed the
"New-Eyes" dental
examination that enables the dentist
to accurately determine the patient's
nutritional status. Doctors
never make this determination because,
until now, there was no way to do it.
